We've gone green at our last RS Meeting! If you've missed it you need to try it. For all those that have asked here is the recipe and details of what you savored:
Pineapple Sunrise-beginner green smoothie
Makes 15-20 oz ( I measured it this morning)
In a blender blend 1 TB of Chia seeds and 1 Cup of Mango JucieJuice
Next add one large handful of Baby Spinach and blend
Then add 1 heaping cup of frozen Pineapple and blend smooth
Then savor your super healthy delectable
Note: if you have an awesome blender then you can toss it all in at once, or if you don't mind a few itzy bitzy spinach pieces you can just toss it all in as well.
What is Chia and why use it?
"Chia is an edible seed that comes from the desert plant Salvia hispanica, grown in Mexico dating back to Mayan and Aztec cultures. "Chia" means strength, and folklore has it that these cultures used the tiny black and white seeds as an energy booster. That makes sense, as chia seeds are a concentrated food containing healthy omega-3 fatty acids, carbohydrates, protein, fiber, antioxidants, and calcium.
Chia seeds are an unprocessed, whole-grain food that can be absorbed by the body as seeds (unlike flaxseeds). One ounce (about 2 tablespoons) contains 139 calories, 4 grams of protein, 9 grams fat, 12 grams carbohydrates and 11 grams of fiber, plus vitamins and minerals."- WebMD
Why use baby spinach?
It is one of the most mild flavors of the green family. It is first among cancer fighting veggies. Rich in antioxidants, beta-carotene lutein and fiber.
Why use Frozen Pineapple?a
it gives our smoothie a pleasant chill with out dulling your blender blades too much (as ice does). It is sweet. Also pineapples are antiviral, antibacterial. Great source of manganese (which helps prevent osteoporosis and bone fractures). Also contains bromelain (a natural enzyme that aids in digestion of the fruit, and is anti-inflammatory)
